After the success of the Social Media Seminar in New York City I spoke at last month, KickApps and Clickability decided to hold a second Social Media Seminar in D.C. and gear it towards government officials. The objective of this seminar was to introduce the attendees to social media as a way to better achieve their goals, especially in relation to education.
While many of the attendees were getting their first introduction to social media and therefore just beginning to grasp the potential of its implementation into their organization, everyone walked away from the seminar with a better idea of how to use social media to achieve their goals.
All of the presenters contributed a lot to the seminar. The presenters/panelists were: Alan Wolk from The Toad Stool; Mario Armstrong from NPR, WEAA and XM; Sandy Carter from IBM, and author of The New Language of Marketing 2.0; Craig Stoltz from Stoltz Digital Strategies; Rebecca McMenamin from Voice of America; and myself.
I was asked to present an overview of Voice of America’s USAVotes2008.com. I gave details regarding the requirements of, detailed the process of and presented the current results of the creation of VoA’s new website. All in all, the seminar was a huge success. Attendees walked away with more knowledge (and consequently, more questions) about social media, and everyone had the chance to network during the reception that followed the seminar.
