The Problem

The Navy was moving their streaming video media from a windows solution into the Adobe Flash platform. They wanted to create a dynamic solution to serve the content using XML but had limited experience in creating XML and RSS feeds. They had the in-house talent to handle the design and development but needed the ability to consult with expert coders for the effort.

The Solution

Mindgrub consultants provided insight and training to the Navy's developers on how, why and what was needed to make the XML solution work. Providing hands on coding on site, as well as providing distance support for the effort. They also served as a sounding board to validate the concepts and ideas behind the various players that make up the system. The System now services millions of visitors who view the dynamic video available to the general public at www.navy.mil

The Results

On October 1, 2007, the US Navy successfully launched the redesigned navy.mil website showcasing many of the media players Mindgrub collaborated on. The MRSS feeds are easily searched and indexed by search engines creating increased traffic to the website.

The United States Navy is responsible for conducting naval operations as a branch of the US armed forces. The U.S. Navy currently has over 333,000 personnel on active duty, 127,800 in the ready reserve and globally operates almost 280 active battle force ships and more than 4,000 aircraft.
