In early 2004, Mindgrub founder Todd Marks forged a partnership with William Spencer of Tactic9 and created Spencer & Marks LLC to begin focusing on new ideas based on the industry trends for information and knowledge. Before the technology was even available to a commercial market, Spencer & Marks envisioned a world in which people would no longer have to look for information; instead, it would be provided to them instantly on their mobile device based on their physical location.
While other companies were thinking about ways in which someone could get from point A to point B, Spencer & Marks asked the question, "Once I’ve arrived at my destination, what’s around me?" This idea evolved into the first product released by the company called viaPlace. The concept is simple, but the idea is bold. They saw a future in delivering content to someone and providing experiences with that content. Spencer & Marks believe that the mobile market is enormous and have spearheaded the campaign to capitalize on its audience.
Today, software engineers at Mindgrub are developing the viaPlace client for Windows Mobile devices and the new Apple iPhone (soon to be released). Mindgrub is excited to be a part of the development team providing leadership and expertise to begin developing for mobile devices.
In early 2009, Mindgrub acquired all assets from Spencer & Marks, including viaPlace.
Imagine walking up to a store and having the store's hours, prices, and specials delivered right to your mobile phone or GPS receiver, or arriving at the airport and having your flight gate and status appear automatically. That is the primary goal of viaPlace: to provide users with dynamic content based on their physical location.
