The Problem
Oracle had very complex back-end systems that their current product only displayed as technical information in a metric system. It was difficult for a non-technical end-user to understand reports and event data on the back-end. They needed an easier way to present the information on the back-end in a user friendly visual format.
The Solution
Oracle turned to Mindgrub to provide development of an application to visualize complex interactivity between its back-end systems and the end-users. Mindgrub had already begun developing a front-end Flash player with an XML-based framework for streamlining information to display systems and in web-based computer training models. This allowed us to leverage existing proven technology that would visually display what was happening on Oracle’s back-end system in an easy to understand format.
The data visualizations would show information such as:
- A server going down and another server swapping it out
- Storage levels on servers
- Number of computers in a cluster
The Results
Oracle’s sales representatives could now demonstrate and describe complex systems that would not normally be easily understood. The front-end Flash components Mindgrub helped develop became part of Oracle’s product “demo Insight.”
The response to demo Insight has been overwhelmingly positive since the visual aids allowed a non-computer savvy person to better understand information presented to them. Oracle used demo Insight for large presentations to clients by reenacting call center scenarios on stage in an auditorium and then displaying what was happening on the back-end during each call center scenario on a screen behind the actors.
