This past weekend I met up with my family in Savannah.
I was going to read up on the history of the area before going for inspiration
but ran out of time before leaving Chicago. We did manage a private
carriage ride around town, saw wonderful views of draped Spanish moss in each
square, and had wonderful po boy meal at Huey's, but we otherwise failed to
absorb the wealth of information that was available.
Savannah did have a nice visitor's map that listed all the local shops and
landmarks. There were also several tours such as the haunted ghost tour
and an architecture tour. Savannah, like many tourist areas could benefit
greatly from location based services. That way you could walk around on
your own accord and receive news about ghosts or architecture details when you
pass by one of these talked about landmarks. The information we could
have gained from our own exploration of the area could have been invaluable.
Although I did learn where Forrest Gump sat and that I should check out Paula
Dean's restaurant in the future, I didn't retain much of the information that
was presented to me between horse farts on the carriage ride.
