Ian MacKinnon
VP of Business Development |
Ian is an experienced entrepreneur with an extensive history of generating key marketing strategies that propel product sales into new markets and drive profitability.
Ian was born in the UK and the early years of his career were spent in Computer systems hardware and software design. As his career developed he became more interested in sales and marketing and in 1990 Ian joined ICL Fujitsu as the Process Industry marketing manager with responsibility for developing products for this vertical. Ian's final position in ICL was as the manager of a semi autonomous software business. Ian bought this business from ICL along with 40 staff in 1996 using angel funding of $4 million and took it public on the London Stock Exchange in under 4 years at a valuation of $80 million.
The funds from the IPO allowed Ian to open the North American office of his company, and he grew this operation to over $18 million of annual sales (75% of the group's revenue). In December 2007, Ian and his board recruited an outside CEO to take the business to a new level and Ian assisted in the transition until June 2009.
Ian has an honors degree in Cybernetics and Instrument Physics from the University of Reading (UK), a Masters in Systems Engineering from the University of Surrey (UK), is a Chartered member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, and completed the marketing module of the University of Tulane's MBA course.
