The Baltimore Promotion of the Arts sought out consulting and development services for the creation of an engaging mobile application for Baltimore’s inaugural culture, art, and innovation festival, Light City Baltimore. They wanted a clean, customizable app that allowed users to navigate the festival, discover artists and events, and build a personalized schedule for both the festival and innovation conferences. By the end of the week, the app boasted nearly 20,000 downloads on both Android and iOs devices.
Mindgrub developed a comprehensive mobile app for Baltimore’s Light City event, including licensing of the viaPlace application software. viaPlace populated the in-app map, which included the locations for the festival’s light installations, music and innovation events, food, guest info, transportation and parking. Green Copper was used to provide a customizable schedule for the event management team to easily add and edit information about events, exhibitions, performances and speakers. Information about transportation, hours, food and beverage, and accessibility were also built into the app. viaPlace allowed the app to obtain user locations by GPS or Wi-Fi and then offer an interactive map based on nearby points of interest. Users could also easily filter their schedules by the categories Music, Performance and Innovation. They could then share their experiences on social media and through text message.
In collaboration with What Works Studio, Mindgrub provided an attractive app design in alignment with the modern aesthetic of Light City. The graphics provided by What Works Studio were implemented into a scalable mobile format across multiple devices. Mindgrub also provided quality assurance testing to ensure a streamlined experience for festival guests.
