SEPTEMBER 12, 2022 | Baltimore-based technology innovation agency Mindgrub Technologies kicks off celebrations of their 20th year in business today by partnering with a local ice cream truck, Quinn's Ice. Next week, Mindgrub and Quinn’s will drive around Baltimore, handing out free ice cream to clients and partners in honor of "20 Years of Innovation.” The celebration will recognize the many businesses and individuals that have helped Mindgrub grow into the leading technology organization it is today. This milestone follows recent news of their 10th consecutive year on the Inc. 5000, a list of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies.
Mindgrub Technologies began in Marks’ home in 2002 before shifting its headquarters to Baltimore. Upon the arrival of the iPhone in 2007, Mindgrub became the first mobile app development team in the region, creating apps for clients such as GEICO and Dell. The company’s regional expansion came in 2014 when its headquarters officially shifted to Baltimore with additional locations established in Washington, DC, New York City, and Philadelphia.
Mindgrub saw a significant burst of growth in 2016 upon signing Fortune 500 clients such as Under Armour, Exelon, Wendy’s, and Crayola. In January, the agency announced its headquarters will move to the metaverse, transitioning many of its HQ operations to the virtual world. This is one of the latest in a series of innovative moves by Mindgrub, all focused on creating a culture of inclusion for its fully-distributed workforce.
“Our culture is one of the things I am and have always been most proud of, and this celebration is an excellent manifestation of what we have to offer,” says Shalisa Mohamed, Mindgrub COO. “20 Years of Innovation is the result of the hard work and dedication of so many, and we can’t wait to honor the fabulous clients, partners, and employees that have made all of this possible.”
For Mindgrub employees (or “Mindgrubbers”), celebrations began in June with 20 culture-building activities in honor of 20 years in business. The company began celebrating with internal activities such as Wellness Weeks, an ice cream sundae competition, and a Juneteenth educational event. Activities will run throughout the year, and include building a collaborative playlist, a virtual sip and paint, game nights, and Mindgrub's own version of MTV's CRIBS. The company will also bring back its step challenge, where employees compete to earn donations to nonprofits. Through these activities, Mindgrubbers have the opportunity to meet and bond with new people, step away from their work, and give back.
Mindgrub has been an active supporter of its community while growing nationwide. The company has contributed to advocacy work within local technology and life science organizations, as well as to Loyola University and Towson University where Founder & CEO, Todd Marks, supports students and future professionals in achieving their full potential. Over the last 20 years, the company has held several events benefitting local organizations such as Code in the Schools, Respite Retreats, Dream Big Baltimore, and others.
At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mindgrub collaborated with industry partners, business leaders, and statewide economic development organizations to create the Maryland Business Relief Wizard, an online tool which helped 30,000 businesses navigate and identify financial relief programs. Additionally, Marks and members of the Mindgrub team founded Mindgrub Ventures in 2020, which helps technology-driven startups grow and offers inclusive support to aspiring entrepreneurs.
“I’m so proud of what Mindgrub has become, but more than that, I’m proud of the team we’ve managed to build and the impact we’ve had the privilege to make,” says Todd Marks, Mindgrub Founder & CEO. “A couple months ago, we jumped into the festivities with our team here at Mindgrub and this week, we’re kicking off the celebrations with our clients and community. I can’t wait to get everyone involved and continue celebrating this momentous occasion with each branch of this business.”
